BonnieandClydewereresponsibleformultiplemurdersandcountlessrobberies.Buttheydidnotactalone.In1933,duringtheirinfamousrunfromthelaw,BonnieandClydewerejoinedbyClyde’sbrotherBuckBarrowandhiswifeBlanche.Ofthesefouraccomplices,onlyone--BlancheCaldwellBarrow--livedbeyondearlyadulthoodandonlyBlancheleftbehindawrittenaccountoftheirescapades.EditedbyoutlawexpertJohnNealPhillips,Blanche’spreviouslyunknownmemoirishereavailableforthefirsttime.Blanchewrotehermemoirbetween1933and1939,whileservingtimeattheMissouriStatePenitentiary.Followingherdeath,Blanche’sgoodfriendandtheexecutorofherwill,EstherL.Weiser,foundthememoirwrappedinalargeunusedChristmascard.LatersheentrustedittoPhillips,whohadinterviewedBlancheseveraltimesbeforeherdeath.Drawingfromtheseinterviews,andfromextensiveresearchintoDepression-eraoutlawhistory,PhillipssupplementsthememoirwithhelpfulnotesandwithbiographicalinformationaboutBlancheandheraccomplices.
